"I was soaking in a hot pond in Hawaii when I met Steve Areen. I overheard him and a few others talking about "building a dome" and inquired about their conversation. I told Steve, "I know this is mine to do, you'll see me again one day."
Since 2015, I have been traveling to and from The Light Center in my camper on book tours. There is something special about the energy of this place...I always feel a sense of peace wash over me the moment I step foot on this sacred land. The Light Center is located in the heart of the continental United States and acts as a hub for healers, teachers, travelers, wwoofers, and beings from all spiritual paths to gather and expand the Light together. Robin Goff (Founder) started with a barn full of hay and manure, and over the past 27 years, she and the ever-growing Light Center community have turned the barn into a retreat center, built yurts, refurbished sheds into living spaces, created trails for hikers and campers, and are currently adding the final touches to the first straw bale house. 
Robin reached out to me a few months after I met Steve in Hawaii, and shared her excitement about wanting to build new kinds of structures on the 90-acre Light Center property. There in her email was a Youtube link to a dome with Steve swinging out of a window. I laughed and responded with enthusiasm, knowing it was time to organize this workshop.
My fiance and I packed up our cat and belongings, and moved back to The Light Center to host this epic dome building journey. We look forward to learning and building with you!"

Baldwin City, Kansas
Though small at 4,700 residents Baldwin City, KS it a vibrant town full of Midwest charm. As you stroll through the friendly and lively town center, you can feel the sense of community and their deep roots. Weather you are just passing through or decide to stay for awhile, there is no doubt you will be welcomed into their inclusive and warm atmosphere. Not more than 12 miles away is the quirky town of Lawrence, KS, where everyone seems to march to their own beat of their drum in unison. Here you can find a plethora of art, music, parades, and a mouth-watering variety of food. Between Baldwin City and Lawrence, you can enjoy everything a large city has to offer, but with that small town feel.

Workshop Learning Objectives

  • ​Learn our methods of building a dome home that is fire and rot resistant, insulative, sustainable, strong and durable against the forces of earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.
  • Work in a friendly and respectful team setting to co-create under the guidance of our instructors
  • Work with power tools, hand tools and construction materials and equipment
  • Build, archway forms and a round window form
  • Mix Aircrete with Domegaia's unique tools - Aircrete is an amazing, material that you can make yourself at home - almost as easily as making pancake batter!
  • Stack bricks with our mortar recipe to construct a dome using a compass arm
  • Build a round, sit-in window
  • Build a custom wooden door
  • Apply reinforcement fabric-mesh with stucco
  • "Classroom" exercises and discussions
    • Topics: Foundation pouring, compass arm assembly, skylight ideas, window installation, door and door jam construction & installation
  • We will offer an inspirational and informative slideshow presentation and dedicated Q&A time!

*Please Note: During this 10-day hands-on workshop, we will build a basic dome structure.  Instruction includes the fundamentals of pouring, stacking and structural reinforcement of the dome but does not include plumbing, electrical or finishing installations.  We will do our best as a team to complete the Aircrete dome during the workshop; however, we do not guarantee completion.  Unexpected obstacles such as adverse weather conditions, for example, may affect our progress and prevent the dome’s full completion.  ​

​We will plan one afternoon off or full day off (depending on our rate of progress) for students to rest and enjoy local attractions!

Our hosts will be offering a few onsite accommodations including a few beds in a shared loft space, two private yurts, and space for tent-camping. Space is limited so please reach out to our host to inquire about availability.

A hearty and nutritious meal plan will be available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options can be provided if needed.
Please contact our host to express your interests in participating in the meal plan and to communicate any dietary restrictions. You do not have to stay on-site to take advantage of this meal plan, any and all are welcome! Meal plan prices TBA.

  • Jai Maa and her team will kindly be providing a round-trip shuttle service from and to the Kansas City Airport (MCI) for $25 each way on October 17th and October 29th at 1:00pm and 5pm both days. Please plan your flight accordingly and book your spot with her.

Cancellation Policy

  • Those cancelling more than 4 weeks prior to the first day of the workshop will receive a full tuition refund, minus a 7% processing and administration fee.
  • Those cancelling 2 - 4 weeks prior to the first day of the workshop will receive a half tuition refund, minus a 7% processing and administration fee.
  • No refunds for cancellation requests made less than 2 weeks prior to the first day of the workshop.
  • ​​If the workshop has to be cancelled for any reason, you will receive an immediate full refund.
